WHO ARE WE?

BLEUSKM is a film and visual production house founded by Zaria Lashae, director, writer, producer, and multihyphenate creative. It was built as a space where Black imagination operates without containment. The name carries cultural memory. “Bleu” invokes blue-black depth, the richness of very dark skin tones historically diminished through colorism yet central to Black identity and beauty. Blue is indigo tied to forced labor and survival. Blue is the blues as testimony and transformation. Blue holds sorrow and resilience at the same time. It represents power, grace, and cultural inheritance. “SKM” draws from the idea of schema, a form and structural design, a program of action. BLEUSKM therefore becomes both symbol and structure, a framework for building worlds grounded in Black history while refusing the limitations placed upon it.

We create psychological thrillers, surrealism, romance, satire, and speculative worlds that reflect the complexity, softness, intellect, humor, and spiritual depth of our communities. Our work challenges conventional genre boundaries while balancing bold visual language with emotional resonance and cultural precision. We reject the idea that Black storytelling must orbit trauma to be meaningful.

This is more than content production. It is cultural architecture. BLEUSKM exists to construct space for imagination that does not shrink, for narratives that do not apologize, and for skin, history, and identity that are neither diluted nor reduced. It is founder-led and community-driven. It is both personal calling and collective platform, a commitment to storytelling powerful enough to shift perspective and expand what Black cinema is allowed to become.

It is a commitment to building the worlds we were never given.
